Baby X's 'Oh, The Places You'll Go!' baby shower was a few weeks ago on the 10th of January. Unfortunately it rained that day and kind of put a damper on things. We had to do a lot of last minute changes, like renting and borrowing tents to keep our guests dry, and altering our original layout and decoration plans, but in the end, aside from the weather, everything turned out pretty okay considering it truly was a shower.
Because of the rain our schedule was kind of thrown off and I wasn't able to add the theme colored party streamer table skirt to the drinks, treats, and eats tables. Boo. Also, not pictured are the custom striped table cloths Baby X's super talented Auntie Lucy made for the occasion (I took like one picture the entire day, and I only have these thanks to Baby X's awesome Auntie Amy). They turned out really cute and pulled everything together. There was also a game table for the kiddos that I don't have pictures of. That was nothing spectacular though so meh.

One of my worst faults is procrastination and because of that a lot of my planned projects for this shower went incomplete, for example, that wood XJL cutout on the table. My dad had cut that out for me and I had plans to have the top layer float above the bottom layer with LED lights in between the two layers to give it a glowing effect, but that obviously didn't happen. If I ever do finish it I'll post it...if I ever finish it that is.
If you know Baby X's dad or me, you know that we like to partake in our libations. Being pregnant I've been pretty jealous of all the boozey debauchery I've had to exclude myself from, 7 weddings, an engagement party, a bachelorette in Mexico where everything was all-inclusive. It's been hard, but worth it...I guess (no I'm not an alcoholic). So since the Mister and I like our drinks, I think I ended up focusing a little too much on them.
Aside from your usual soda, beer, and water we also had a bellini bar, which kind of failed since no one actually drank any bellini's - in hindsight I probably should have opened up the prosecco, instead of relying on guests to do the job for me. Lesson learned.
What was a success was the hot chocolate bar. It was the perfect weather for some hot cocoa, so there was really no surprise there. Guests even had the option of adding some Bailey's to their hot chocolate, but hardly anyone did. Oh well. In addition to that we had lemonade with strawberries and pineapple, fruit punch (which no one could really drink since the spout of the dispenser wasn't working) and lime, lemon, and cucumber infused water. Ohh, and how could I forget the liquor. We had that too...and finished it all...in addition to another bottle purchased later that night. It's sooo much fun watching other people get drunk -Insert sarcastic look here-.
Okay...now lets get to the treat table.
Let me preface this by saying...once I get an idea it most often snowballs into something way more elaborate than I can manage. I had plans for this treat table. Big plans. But due to my aforementioned vice of procrastination, and the fact that you really can't bake too far ahead, I had to trim the fat on my original plan. But even with doing that, the night before I was still in the weeds, majorly, and had to enlist the help of the Mister, which I really didn't want to do. I'm pretty anal when it comes to things I'm making - I wasted so many of those rainbow jello things because I didn't like the way they looked, so asking for help meant I really needed it, and good thing I did since even with help I was barely finishing the parfaits at 10pm.
The treat table consisted of, 10 layer rainbow jello cups (these took FOREVER!), lemon curd parfaits, chocolate Oreo parfaits, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, peanut butter cookies, rice krispy treats, chocolate almond biscotti, and cranberry orange biscotti. Apparently no one likes biscotti (or my biscotti tastes like poo-poo) because no one ate those. Dip it in the hot chocolate guys... it's better like that. Probably should have put those at the hot chocolate bar. Too late now. I definitely over baked, which was not good for me in the following week since all I did was eat my way through all the left over baked goods. What can I say? My baby likes sweets.
Overall it was a stressful, but fun, rainy day. People told me how big I look (thanks...again, sense the sarcasm), Baby X got a lot of good, useful gifts, and Baby X's daddy got drunk. Fun times.
Thanks to everyone that helped us clean up, and thanks to Baby X's Aunties Amy, Flo, Lucy, and Thi for helping set & clean up, loaning tents (RIP Lucy's tent), and for organizing the games. Also, thanks bunches to Baby X's Grandparents for hosting the shower and inviting almost 100 people into their home. My mom is a super clean freak so I know that was a ton of fun for her. Kidding.
So...that my friends was Baby X's baby shower.
Thanks to everyone for all the great gifts and for helping us celebrate this new chapter in our life. Let's hope for a normal sized head!
